AUTHOR GUIDELINES

1. Journal Scope and Focus
CONTEMPLATE: Jurnal Studi Keislaman publishes scholarly articles resulting from empirical research and critical academic studies in the field of Islamic studies. The journal covers, but is not limited to, normative Islamic studies, Islamic history, sociology of Islam, philosophy of Islam, Islamic education, Islamic law, contemporary Islamic thought, and interdisciplinary Islamic studies relevant to the development of knowledge and society.
Submitted manuscripts must demonstrate clear theoretical and/or empirical contributions, as well as academic novelty and relevance.
2. Manuscript Types and Originality
- Manuscripts must be original works and must not have been previously published or be under consideration by other journals.
- Acceptable manuscript types include:
- Empirical research articles (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods)
- Conceptual or theoretical articles based on critical literature review
- Manuscripts must be free from plagiarism. The maximum acceptable similarity index is 20%, excluding references.
3. Language
Manuscripts may be written in: - Standard academic Indonesian, or - Academic English of acceptable scholarly quality.
Authors are fully responsible for the linguistic accuracy and clarity of their manuscripts.
4. Length and Formatting
- Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word.
- Manuscript length: 4,500–8,000 words, including abstract and references.
- Paper size: A4.
- Font: Garamond, 12-point, single-spaced.
- Standard Microsoft Word margins are applied.
5. Manuscript Structure
5.1 Title
- Written in FULL CAPITAL LETTERS.
- Maximum length: 15 words.
- Must clearly and specifically reflect the substance and focus of the article.
5.2 Author Information
- Author names should be written without academic titles.
- Full institutional affiliations must be provided.
- The email address of the corresponding author is mandatory.
5.3 Article History
Includes: - Received - Revised - Accepted
(Dates will be completed by the editorial team.)
5.4 Keywords
- Provided in English and Indonesian.
- Consist of 3–5 words or phrases.
- Must be conceptual and specific.
- Avoid overly general terms.
6. Abstract
- Abstracts must be written in both English and Indonesian.
- Each abstract should be 150–250 words in length.
- Written in a single paragraph.
- Must include:
- Research objectives
- Methodology
- Main findings
- Conclusions and implications
- Abstracts must not contain citations, tables, figures, or formulas.
- Academic and formal language must be used consistently.
7. Introduction
The introduction should: 1. Present the research background critically and contextually. 2. Review relevant previous studies (state of the art). 3. Identify the research gap. 4. Explain the urgency and objectives of the study. 5. Clearly state the theoretical and/or practical contributions of the research.
The introduction must be argumentative and supported by up-to-date scholarly references.
8. Methodology
The methodology section should describe clearly and systematically: 1. Research type and design. 2. Research context and participants or objects of study. 3. Data sources and data collection techniques. 4. Sampling strategies (if applicable). 5. Data analysis techniques. 6. Validity and reliability or trustworthiness strategies. 7. Ethical considerations, particularly when involving human participants.
The methodology should ensure transparency and replicability.
9. Results and Discussion
- Results and discussion may be presented as separate sections or integrated.
- Data must be critically analyzed and interpreted in relation to relevant theories and previous studies.
- Authors must position their findings within current academic discourse.
- Tables and figures should be used selectively and accompanied by clear captions.
10. Conclusion
The conclusion should: 1. Summarize the main findings of the study. 2. Highlight the scholarly contributions of the research. 3. Present theoretical and/or practical implications where appropriate. 4. Avoid unnecessary repetition of the discussion.
11. References
- A minimum of 15 references is required.
- References must be relevant and up to date.
- All references must follow APA Style, 7th Edition.
- Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley or Zotero.
12. Publication Ethics
CONTEMPLATE upholds the highest standards of publication ethics, including: - Academic integrity - Data transparency - Proper acknowledgment of authorship - Plagiarism avoidance - Disclosure of conflicts of interest
13. Open Access Policy
All published articles are open access and distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
14. Peer Review Process
- All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review
- Final decisions regarding acceptance or rejection are made by the editorial board based on reviewers’ recommendations.
These Author Guidelines are intended to assist authors in preparing manuscripts that meet the academic standards and editorial requirements of CONTEMPLATE: Journal of Islamic Studies.
